UL Hosts India Road Safety Forum

UL brought together 23 organizations in Gurgaon, India to discuss improving road safety and explore collaborative solutions. The forum consisted of non-profit, government, academia and commercial organizations that are all focused on improving road safety and addressing the impact that road accidents have had on the country. India has a high rate of loss of life from road accidents, so UL is dedicated to creating solutions and improving the safety of the country. UL sponsored the “Safer Roads, Safer India” competition and the four winners will receive support from UL in the next year to expand their solutions to road safety in India. The four winners are Neighborhood Improvement Plan, Kolkata Emergency Medical System and Service, Home Safe and Positive Strokes. Neighborhood Improvement Plan is a citizen-drive project that makes roads safer for pedestrians and vehicular traffic, and has made a huge impact at two high risk locations. Kolkata Emergency Medical System and Service is a medical emergency system that helps India’s emergency service providers better respond to traffic incidents. Home Safe is an “on call” chauffeur service in New Delhi to help citizens get home safely at any time. Finally, Positive Strokes positively reinforces good road use behavior through volunteers that watch and commend other driver’s good behavior; this engages citizens and gives them a sense of ownership over their safety. UL is proud to support such great organizations, and bring together people who are committed to improve road safety!
