“Be Safe. Drive Smart.”

Local, county, and state officials kicked off a campaign to highlight the importance of safe driving in work zones in order to reduce wrecks and fatalities in Odessa, Texas. Their campaign including putting up large colorful signs by the Interstate reminding drivers to “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” This area has a high incident of accidents and injuries, and the Odessa Police Department Chief Tim Burton asked drivers to be more conscious of each other – especially between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. when the most wrecks occur – and know that serious wrecks can occur even at low speeds and in rural areas. This campaign hopes to remind drivers to be patient, and that speed, driver inattention, aggressive driving, and failure to yield and stop at stop signs are not safe driving practices.
